Stuck at "Please plug in..."
Hello,

New here, and new to Yamipod. Haven't gotten it to work yet.

Win98Se
Yamipod version 1.7
Ipod Nano 8Gig

Installed PCI 2.0 card
Installed Nec drivers for it

Tried various external USB HD drivers

( Fwiw, cannot get the driver found here: http://www.98-drivers.com/ipod.html
to install. )

Have taken the Ipod to a WinXP computer that has
latest ver of Itunes on it.
Used Restore.
Have loaded many songs on the Ipod.
Ipod plays them fine.

On the Win98SE computer, when Ipod is plugged in,
Ipod screen changes to:
Connected
Eject before disconnecting

In Windows Explorer, a new drive appears.
It is named Removable Disk (G:)
I cannot open G: drive though. Double clicking on it , and I get a message that the drive is not formatted.
I always chose to not format it.

When I run Yamipod, it displays the message:
Please plug in your Ipod to continue.
Have not ever gotten farther.

When it was connected to the XP computer with Itunes,
synching WAS turned off. In other words, it is set to manually manage.

Cannot remember if we did anything with the "Enable Disk Use". However a book I have on Ipods says that it is not necessary once manually manage is set.

If necessary, I'll take the Ipod back to that XP computer and check on the "Enable Disk Use".
Could this one thing be the problem?

If you need more info, just ask - I'll get it.

Thank you.

Re: Stuck at "Please plug in..."
Just finished with similar failure.
I had "Charging, Please Wait..."

I found to press "MENU and SELECT" to reset.
It then charged for a while.
Next EJECT and disconnect from USB.
Final bizarre was to connect to another USB port.
It is now working ????

Diagnostics were while booting do SELECT REWIND.
Google it for more info

Ipod is fully charged here. I forgot to mention that.

What diagnostics?
Can you explain this part?
Thanks

Re: Stuck at "Please plug in..."
Did see a warning about being used with NEWER iTunes may cause problems.
Just did 100% done after 55 minutes on 160GB with 27336 songs in iTunes.
It slowed at 82% after a minute then 50 minutes later at 97% switched to "please connect the ipod"

Couldn't use with YamiPod OS X version
Is this the Problem express in message at connection ?

160GB iPod formatted and loaded on WIn XP Pro
Recovered from frozen as previous message.
Recovered to usable with iTunes 7.6.2 on Mini OS X 10.4.11
Also tested on G5 iMac and Pioneer Elite 74 TXi receiver.

This link talks of diagnostics but I found a better site when I was at home.
If you still have problems the reply.

Found it...

This was clearer

Re: Stuck at "Please plug in..."
Update:

Visited the XP computer, with Ipod in hand.

"Enable Disk Use" was, and still is, checked On.

Hoping for some replies with advice/things to try.

Thanks

Re: Stuck at "Please plug in..."
Another question:

In Explorer, should the Ipod appear with the name, "Removable Disk", or something else?

I ask because I remember that on the XP computer earlier today, the Ipod appeared with the name that I'd given it with Itunes when first setting it up.
